Civilian service at Mariastein Abbey
We are looking for community service volunteers to support the operation and maintain the infrastructure.
The Benedictine monastery of Mariastein is the second largest place of pilgrimage in Switzerland. Around 250,000 visitors come to this place of power and culture every year. In addition to regular church services, there are concerts, readings, markets and other events. The monastic community has grown older and smaller in the past, which is why it is increasingly dependent on support from staff and volunteers. The monastery has a considerable infrastructure, including the monastery church (basilica), chapel of grace, monastery square, library, guest houses, staff offices, monastery garden and orchards. A team of around 30 employees supplements the monks’ activities. People doing community service are also regularly deployed at Mariastein. The range of activities is varied and depends on need and ability. These include garden maintenance, fruit harvesting, bee care, environmental care, building cleaning, waste disposal services, technical support services (plumbing, repairs, etc.), office services (maintaining catalogs, inventory, etc.).
Interested? Come and talk to operations manager Florian Dolder and janitor Robert Husistein.
