Peace begins with listening. In music from Gregorian chant to the present day, the suffering and hope of affected people come together. The longing for peace and the fulfillment of a meaningful life hovers over everything. The unique voice of tenor Rolf Romei, the enraptured sounds of the harp and organ and the 16 voices of the Basel Madrigalists interweave to create a multi-faceted sound that fills the Mariastein Basilica alternately from the gallery and the altar. In addition to the famous Gregorian antiphon “Da pacem Domine”, chants and instrumental works by Heinrich Schütz, Leoš Janáček, Maurice Ravel, Benjamin Britten, Knut Nystedt and the Swiss composers Frank Martin, Edward Staempfli, Heinz Holliger and Franceso Hoch can be heard .
