Lectio divina

What is a lectio divina?

Lectio divina involves four steps: reading, reflecting, silence, and praying. It is a method of allowing oneself to be touched and enriched by a biblical text, engaging both the heart and mind in reading the Bible. It begins with listening to God’s word through reading (lectio), followed by reflecting on the text (meditatio). In the next step, there is contemplation on how the text personally affects me (contemplatio), which ultimately leads to expressing my thoughts or prayers to God (oratio).

Preparation for Sunday

Lectio divina is a way of preparing for Sunday in which we read and reflect together on a biblical text chosen from the liturgy for the coming Sunday: either an Old Testament text, an epistle of the apostles or a sequence from the Gospel.
