Concert

The English term “shade” denotes both gradations of light and color as well as spirits from the beyond. Played by a quartet of viola da gamba, two Renaissance transverse flutes and the chapel organ, the three pieces in the program share an aesthetic of minimal music and massive sound. The concert explores darkness as a source for playing and listening to music. With the selection of pieces, the musicians ask and ourselves whether darkness is not simply a multitude of layers of different shadows and colors. A particular focus is on bringing early music and composer by looking at the sound material like compost and ‘recycling’ it anew.

Program

  • Ed Williams (*1989): “L’Enharmonique Decomposed” (2024) for two transverse flutes, viola da gamba and organ
  • Catherine Lamb (*1982) : “Line/Shadow” (2011)
  • Marco Baldini (*1986): “Quartetto” (2023) for four bass instruments
